The goal of the EuroNorm (EN) standards is to establish a product classification code for the European community to quickly and easily tell an architect, specifier, tile contractor or distributor exactly how a product is designed to perform.
TILE ADHESIVES are classified as follows according to EN 12004;
A. Types of Adhesives: (C, R, D);
- Cementitious Adhesives C
- Resin Adhesives R
- Dispersion Adhesives D
B. Classes of Adhesives:
- Normal Adhesive 1
- Improved Adhesive 2
As per the Standard BS EN 12004, the cementitious tile adhesive (C) has to achieve minimum adhesion results at the following curing conditions, besides specific open time to be classified against the standard.

Note: if the tile adhesive is (S2) that doesn’t mean it complies to (S1) as well, but it exceeds.
Open time: the minimum requirements for both C1 and C2 is 20 minutes open time that would achieve above 0.5Mpa after 28days SC
